PROGRESS
a. Visual research.
Pictures from Genshin Impact (Game)
For the visual research part, I took some shots in Genshin Impact, a game. When I was playing the game and looking around the places and suddenly feel that all these visuals and places in games also needs to be appreciated as well. So, I took some beautiful photos in the game and decided to recreate the scenes.
b. Idea exploration.
Idea 1: Hallway
I roughly sketched out the perspective of the church hallway just to try and understand better how do all the things come together at such an angle.
Idea 2: Light and shadow on human
The sketch of my sister above was about how the character was captured when in motion or dynamically. The light source from the isle shows great attention of the light and shadow to the character.

I think this kind of dark and light place like a broken floor hole on the floor is very eye-catching as the meaning of "sense of place" really is about how one person feels that they belong and look right. The technique I used here was the charcoal pen, pencil, and also digital art to create the glowing light casting on the floor.

SENSE OF PLACE
Figure 1.5: "Liyue Street", 03 June 2021
Description: The way I managed to come out with this final piece of "sense of place" was mainly based on all the research I have done about this topic. I found out how important is it to show the transmitted light falls on the intersecting geometric building forms. I am not really good at doing all the perspective drawing even until now but, I did try my best to come up with one perspective work like this. This is called the "Liyue Street" because this was actually also inspired by the game that I have mentioned before, "Genshin Impact". This was one of the places from the game that I admire, where you walk down the street and see all kinds of buildings and different levels of stairs. Then, the colours that I have chosen to apply here was due to the concept of contrast with warm and cold colours.
