Task 4
LECTURE
Lecture in Week 4 focused on last two main design principles, which were Harmony and Unity. These two principles actually works very well together as they both brings out the completeness of a picture or artwork. We were also assigned to create 2 designs for each principle, Harmony and Unity.
Harmony- When the elements of the artwork are fused together in a unified way. Certain elements can be repeated, but they still look and feel as if they are borrowing from themselves as a whole. Harmony is communicated in many ways. You can use color as a medium and use markers and paintings to coordinate the art.
Visual examples:
Pictures from Internet.
Unity- Make the artwork cohesive or coherent. This is the completeness of the picture. The artist uses the unity and harmony in art to connect the composition and help the composition become meaningful as a whole.
If done well, Unity can be very subtle. The unified artwork looks correct, complete and pleasing. The principle of artistic unity does not have to repeat the same elements over and over again, but to create a pleasing overall picture.

PROGRESS
a. Visual research.
I did my visual research by looking up pictures from my trusty buddy again, Pinterest. I have actually had something in mind because I knew there was an admirable artist that I have seen ages ago does artworks like hormony and unity. So Youn Lee, an artist from Korea. Thus I went on and looked through her artworks again to get some ideas.

There is also an another artist from China that I really like, Louise Zhang which I have mentioned before in Task 3. I like how Louise Zhang handles harmony in all her artworks. For example,
Some of her wonderful artworks.

b. idea exploration.
1. Idea 1 (Harmony)
Figure 1.3: Initial sketch of Harmony, 29 April 2021
For this harmony design, I decided to do some illustration on spider lilies being on top of water or lake. I don't know if it is something usual for spider lily to be in water but I will make sure the color theme is visual pleasing enough.
2. Idea 2 (Unity)
Figure 1.4: Initial sketch of Unity, 29 April 2021
3. Idea 3 (Unity)
Figure 1.5: Sketch of my bunny boy, 30 April 2021
Figure 1.6: Initial sketch of Unity, 30 April 2021
I actually decided to use the idea of bunny boys, which is shown in Figure 1.6, rather than choosing the first idea of Unity. This is because I think the mermaids and the spider lilies idea was quite similar to ideation of Harmony, Figure 1.3. I wanted to do something else so I created a character with bunny head of my likings.
