Exercise 2a- Landscape
a. Visual research
Just like Exercise 1, I have said that all my inspirations come when I Pinterest things and look at all the artworks done by people. So, I did some research on Pinterest.
Figure 1.0: Research on Pinterest, 16 April 2021
I think I hit the jackpot when I searched "Landscape design digital art". The results that came out was exactly what I was looking for. But when I was looking through all the designs there, I only realized I had to match the colors and theme of my character. So, I went on and searched for pastel background designs, just so I can get an idea on what do I need to put for that landscape for my character, and also based on her story, the Sakura Isle.
Figure 1.1: More specific ideation research, 16 April 2021
As you can see there are not just pastel type of background that I researched about, I also took my time to do some mix and match with the character putting beside. This way, I can roughly match what kind of color scheme is possible for this landscape design.
b. Ideations
Figure 1.2: First attempt of my design, 20 April 2021
I decided to make my landscape all by using the shapes given for character design in Exercise 1. I was actually trying to make a dark theme forest at first, but it all just does not look right so I decided to change it up for more dreamy-like floating island or something. So I searched it up more ideas and I found this:
Figure 1.3: Further research/ latest inspiration, 21 April 2021
I went for this type of style in the end because it only gives off the overall feeling that I want. Then I started to just use the same shapes and create everything in a go.
Figure 1.4: Arranging the branches and mountains, 23 April 2021
Figure 1.5: semi-final of my landscape design, 23 April 2021
It was only the semi-final outcome of my landscape design because I was actually done with just like that before, only using two types of shapes. Then I realized it looked kind of plain I supposed. So, I decided to add some sakura flowers and petals to add the impression of Sakura Isle. After the flowers were added, it turns out I have only used 3 types of shapes to complete this landscape.

Exercise 2b: Game card
For the game card, I simply looked for the Mr. popular, Pokémon cards for the template. As usual, I downloaded the Pokémon card templates from my research buddy, Pinterest. Then I traced it using Adobe Illustration pen tools.
Figure 2.0: Tracing process, 26 April 2021
When I was designing the card, I only realized the card has to be in 897 x 1479 px which is already longer than my actual traced template. So, I had to do some slight adjustments by dragging it down a bit. Shown in Figure 2.1 below.

After all that, the exciting part where I get to put my character's, "Drimly" information is here! Adding all the stories, abilities and names.

REFLECTIONS
For this exercise 2, I did not know we can actually use other shapes rather than just the shapes given by lecturer throughout the first half of the process. The time when I finally get the instructions, knowing that it was free on using other shapes, I already made up my mind to just go with the shapes given, because I have already had the idea of how my landscape will be. So, I learned that I should read the instructions more carefully next time. But still, perhaps I have already developed some liking for using shapes to create things, so I enjoyed this assignment. Overall, I had fun doing this and making a Pokémon card with my very own character and designs. It was a quite special experience for myself, because as someone lazy like me, I wouldn't have thought to be using frustrating methods to create arts, but I actually did it. I got to know more techniques in illustrations.
