PROGRESS
Week 8
Students must choose one popular fairy-tale story and create an audiobook based on it. The task progresses from auditory imaging in that students must now not only consider appropriate soundscapes, but also record the voice with appropriate voice acting and bring it all together with sound effects to highlight and enhance the storytelling experience. Consider this as a radio show.
Scripts:
Chosen story: Coraline
Today I'd like to introduce you to the film Coraline. Coraline felt neglected after moving to a new home due to her parents' busy work schedules. She then played alone outside the house, where she met the cat hero and boy named Wybie. She discovered a hidden small door while exploring the living room. She eagerly asked her mother to open the small door, only to be met with a brick wall. She awoke to find a mouse after hearing some noises while sleeping. Curiously, she chased the mouse until the small door opened, where she discovered a mysterious tunnel. She came to the same place as her house once she entered the tunnel.
She was surprised to see someone who resembled her mother, but her eyes were buttons. The button-eyed mother warmly welcomed the heroine and said she is welcome to stay and not return to the world where no one cares about her. Coraline, who has no doubts about the situation at all, simply admires the button-eyed mother. Until the mother asked the heroine if she wanted to stay in this world, she could have endless fun every day if she sewed her eyes into buttons. Coraline was so terrified when she heard this that she immediately ran outside to plan her escape.
Coraline had not expected to meet the cat hero who had sneaked into the tunnel with her and had only appeared now and gained the ability to speak. The cat then informed her that the world was created by buttoneye mother in order to please you and trick you into staying. Only the living room tunnel can exit. Then why does the cat know so much? I don't know either. So Coraline returned to the living room alone to leave, but the button-eyed mother was already waiting for her. She asked Coraline to stay and not leave, and the two got into an argument. Wow, you can't deal with it by magic as a witch; and you chose to argue with her instead?
Anyways, after a few squabbles, the witch mother turned into her witch form and grabbed Coraline, locking her in the mirror prison until she promised to stay before releasing her. However, Coraline had just been locked in when she heard a strange voice calling her. Looking back, it appears that it was some spirits of several children then chatting with them. Knowing that the witch has been living here for a long time, she will spy on the residents and, when the child is lonely, she will entice the child with some lovely things. Make them sew up button eyes voluntarily in order to stay, and then shut them up in here to drain their souls until they die. And because the children who had their eyes taken away couldn't leave to reincarnate, they said they'd help Coraline escape and asked her to help them get their eyes back. So what happens next? What will Coraline do in order to escape from the witch?
Extra:
Wybie abruptly pulled out the heroine from the mirror prison. She managed to crawl back to the real world from the tunnel with his assistance. But when Coraline returned, she discovered that her parents had vanished. With the help of the cat, she found that the witch had locked her parents in the mirror. She was terrified, but for the sake of her beloved parents, she mustered the courage to return and save them. The cat informed her that the witch enjoys gambling and that she can use this method to save people. So what plans will Coraline come up with in order to save her parents and then escape from the witch? Then you should watch it on your own and find out what happens next!
After writing the scripts for Coraline movie, I noticed that the total time including the extra lines are 4 minutes plus, so I decided to make it shorter into 3 minutes by cutting the extra lines so that it won't be too long.
Voice Recording:
Figure 0.2: Voice recorder
I started by recording my voice using the built in voice recorder in my pc, I separated the recordings into 4 parts as shown below.
Raw Recordings

Figure 0.3: Pictures from Internet
Figure 0.4: Voice editing in Adobe Audition
Figure 0.5: Sound waves
Figure 0.6: Vocal enhancer
Figure 0.7: Sound editing
For this part of the sound editing, I adjusted my breathing sounds into lower levels so that it will not be heard in the audio.
